WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT
Awakening India is a not-for-profit NGO working towards the rehabilitation of jail inmates. The NGO consists of a group of doctors from various fields (like ENT, Cardiology, Psychiatry, etc) and volunteers coming together and looking after the well-being of inmates, both physically and emotionally.
The basic problems of prisoners today include loneliness, alienation, exclusion from the community, idleness, lack of hygiene among many others. All this leads to depression, anger and health-related problems. Sometimes, a prisoner may have underlying addiction and dependency issues that are simply not treated while they are in jail.
So, Awakening India is dedicated to improving the daily lives of such jail inmates. This will not only boost their confidence but also inspire them to become better citizens and contribute towards society when they are released from jail.
We were briefed to create the very foundation of this initiative- trust. It’s all about how we can make more and more people understand about real justice and convert them into volunteers, inspire them to join the cause of Awakening India.
